Commercial Cleaning Shenton Park

The railway line splits the suburb in two and the work follows it. East of the line is almost all residential, with around a third of homes being apartments or semi detached. West of the line is bushland, commercial buildings, Shenton College and the hospital and health science campus.

The apartment blocks east of the railway are mostly low rise, which means stairwells rather than lifts, open carports rather than basements, and a lot of leaf litter off the street trees. That changes the emphasis: stairs, handrails, external walkways and carpark sweeping do more work than they would in a building with a lift and a basement.

East of the line is where almost everyone lives, in a mix of houses, semi detached homes and low rise apartment blocks. West of the line is bushland, commercial buildings, Shenton College and a teaching and rehabilitation hospital with a health science campus and two private hospitals. On the residential side the work is stairwells, carports, letterbox banks and leaf litter. On the western side it is larger buildings with their own access, security and out of hours requirements.

Most of the residential complexes here are walk ups, which means no lift and no basement. Equipment gets carried up stairs, there is nowhere secure to leave anything between visits, and the carpark is usually open to the street. We plan the run around that rather than pretending it does not matter. Street trees are the other constant, and they drop a great deal onto walkways, carports and gutters, so external sweeping runs on a tighter cycle here than in a newer complex with a basement.
